Inbound tourism in October grows by 9.8%

Total inbound visitors for October of this year were estimated at 219,484, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO). This marked an increase of 9.8% when compared to the corresponding month of 2015.

The NSO said that a total 185,975 inbound tourist trips were carried out for holiday purposes, while a further 16,488 were undertaken for business purposes.

Inbound tourists from EU member states went up by 10.3%, reaching 183,982 when compared to the corresponding month of 2015, with the majority of inbound tourists aged between 45 and 64, followed by those within the 25-44 age bracket.

Total nights spent went up by 3.9% when compared to October 2015, amounting to 1,543,665 nights. The largest share of guest nights (61.3%) was spent in collective accommodation establishments.

Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €189.5 million, which translates to an increase of 4.1% over the corresponding month of 2015.

January-October 2016

Inbound tourist trips from January to October amounted to 1,730,558, an increase of 8.3% over the same period in 2015. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 4.9%, surpassing 13.3 million nights.

Total tourism expenditure was estimated at €1,544.9 million, which is 3.3% higher than that recorded for 2015. Total expenditure per capita stood at €893, a decrease of 4.6% when compared to 2015.
