Former BOV chairman takes helm at APS Bank

Frederick Mifsud Bonnici took over at the helm of APS Bank following the retirement of the bank's chairman Emmanuel P. Delia who had been in the post for 18 years

The former chairman of Bank of Valletta and of the Malta Stock Exhange, Frederick Mifsud Bonnici, has replaced Emanuel P. Delia as non-executive chairman of APS Bank after 18 years of service at the helm.

The appointment was approved today at the bank’s annual general meeting, during which Joseph C. Caruana also retired as Director.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England & Wales), Mifsud Bonnici’s career spans over 42 years, mostly as a Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers from where he retired in 2011 as Assurance Leader.

He has served as non-executive Chairman of Bank of Valletta PLC, Mapfre MSV Life and more recently as a non-executive director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Medbank Group Limited and its subsidiary Mediterranean Bank PLC.

He was also Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange and President of the Malta Institute of Accountants, on which Council he sat for over 32 years, and has held board positions at Malita Investments PLC and Malta Freeport Corporation Limited.

Mifsud Bonnici is also a member of the S.M.O.M. 

The AGM paid tribute to Delia’s unstinted dedication and commitment and the fact that his vision had guided the Bank’s strategy and served as a solid platform for its future growth. The important contribution of Caruana, a seasoned and experienced banker of many years’ standing, was also acknowledged.

The meeting also approved the appointment of Deloitte Audit Malta as the Bank’s new auditors. Appreciation was expressed to outgoing auditors EY Malta, for their long years of diligent service to the shareholders of the Bank.
