The Green party has called for a general election, in the wake of a decision by the Nationalist Party executive committee that has raised questions over the government's relations with MP Franco Debono.
Michael Briguglio, chairperson of Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party said: "The current political situation is a farce which can only be solved through a general election. We've all had enough of backbench threats, guessing games, an opportunist and populist Labour Party and of a Nationalist government which is procrastinating to make full use of its power of incumbency."
Briguglio was referring to yesterday's decision in the PN executive to reconfirm an election ban on MP Franco Debono, for voting in favour of an Opposition motion that led to the resignation of home affairs minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici.
The Nationalist government's one-seat majority was only recently lost after MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando broke off from the party, staying in parliament as an independent MP and with an agreement to be consulted by the Prime Minister on government policy and other non-party manifesto policies.
