Gonzi says Labour leader is making promises he cannot keep

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi says Opposition leader Joseph Muscat is making promises which he cannot keep about planning permits.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said the Nationalist Party has proved to be the only party capable of creating jobs
Jurgen Balzan

In an interview held today on the Nationalist Party's radio station, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said the Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat making promises which he might not be able to honour in meetings held with individuals.

Gonzi said Muscat is promising development permits, "even though this might create problems with Mepa."

The Prime Minister asked whether Labour's environment policy was based on such promises and reminded listeners that Labour, holds an awful record in the environmental sector, citing decisions taken by past Labour administrations which ruined historical sites.

Mentioning the Opposition's leader's stands on the dockyards and Sea Malta, Gonzi said "Muscat took wrong decisions and was on the wrong side of history just as previous Labour Party ministers did before him. "

Gonzi said Labour MEP Edward Scicluna who is a being portrayed as a star candidate has stated that the stipend and health systems are not sustainable. Gonzi also spoke about the past records of former Labour ministers Evarist Bartolo, Leo Brincat and Karmenu Vella who are still central ingredients  of today's Labour Party.

Gonzi explained that unlike Labour, the government has clear and sustainable policies such as those incentivising the use of clean energy. He added that Labour cannot be trusted on issues such as students' stipends and health.

Speaking about tomorrow's Parliamentary vote on the Opposition's motion calling for the resignation of Malta permanent representative to the EU Richard Cachia Caruana, Gonzi

Said the motion should serve as a reminder of Labour's impulse to destroy people.

The Prime Minister defended the government's record in running the economy and pledged to continue creating more jobs and increasing the disposable income of families, workers and the self-employed.

"The Nationalist Party had always been the political party to create jobs having weathered the stormy international economic climate in the last four years."

Gonzi said that apart from the 20,000 jobs created in four years, up to 20,000 students had graduated from University, MCAST and other educational institutions.

He explained that a Nationalist administration will also continue to invest in education, health, the environment and infrastructure.

In reaction to Labour's incessant criticism of the new Parliament project, Gonzi also defended the investment being made in Valletta, including the extensive restoration of the bastions and the City Gate project.

He explained that the government's vision was to have a vibrant capital city worthy of being Europe's cultural capital in 2018.

"Criticism by Joseph Muscat, is only motivated by his own partisan interests. For Labour, quality is not important. These projects are not only creating jobs, but are also freeing up space in the President's Palace which will become another tourist attraction."

Quote"Gonzi said the Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat making promises which he might not be able to honour." Unquote. Look who's talking! Dear Gonzi, do you remember your electoral promises mailed to all the households in Malta in 2008? How many of them have you failed to honour?

Staqsu lil impjegati tal Airmalta; lil min ghadu jistenna tnaqqis fit-taxxi; 5600 impjiegi go Smart City li mhux vera; etc etc etc. Voti bisw iridu tal Gonzipn...u wara jinsewna. Now that is the pot calling the kettle black, Mr. broken promises himself, Dr Gonzi, should first of all recall what he promised before the last election. For instance he promised that Airmalta and Shipyard workers shouldn’t worry with GonziPN in government, look where they are now. He promised meritocracy in Government boards and companies’ but in realty the only qualification one needs to qualify for these boards is that you have to be a blue eyed lackey. These are only two examples. As talking about the past, let me remind him something about the 80’s, does he remember the thousands of political transfers (described as postings) and other injustices suffered by Labour sympathizers when PN came in government in 1987. As for City Gate, the less said soonest mended, if there ever was a white elephant in Malta City Gate is the best example. Dr Gonzi should stop speaking about the past; he should start speaking about the present like for instance the recession that hit Malta, the precarious employment and the standard of living of the Maltese that has gone down and how are ewe ver going to pay the debt that he and his party stuck us with.

"Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi says Opposition leader Joseph Muscat is making promises which he cannot keep about planning permits." AND THAT WAS SAID FROM THE EXPERT OF UNKEPT PROMISES HIMSELF.
Posted by: edyjoyce — 17/06/2012 18:24:33
How can Gonzi justify the building of the new unwanted parliament, by saying that it will free a number of rooms at the Palace, when ALL the Auberges - beautiful palaces in their own right- are wholly being used as government offices, including the most beautiful one, Auberge de Castille ???!!!

"Gonzi says Labour leader is making promises he cannot keep." Gonzi speaks out of experience here. It is a bit difficult to emulate him in the matter of keeping promises!!

Ma nistax nemmen kif dan il Prim ministru jitkellem hekk. Weghdiet qabel l-elezzjoni tat 2008 li jnehhi t-taxxa min 35% ghal 25% jien blajta b'sunnara jew b'kulpara , ivvotajt lilom, jobs ghal tad-dockyard u ta l-AirMalta asigurati, imma dan ma jisthiex jitkellem u ma nistax nemmen kif jidher b'wiccu bil quddiem, u jigdeb fuq haddiehor , ma fadallux izjed xi jghid u nahseb issa jaf li dalwaqt waslet is-siegha tal hsara li ghamel lil Malta f'kull inkwa progett BWSC, SMart City u bieb il-belt u tejatru bla saqaf u x'ma ghamielx ,faqar 20%, kontijiet tad dawl u ilma , gas ghola hames darbiet izjed ghax tah lil privat b'monopolju, Sea Malta kissira u ta bxejn , l-anqas nieqaf.

'In an interview held today on the Nationalist Party's radio station, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said the Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat making promises which he might not be able to honour in meetings held with individuals'. Gonzipn is trying to make us believe that Joseph Muscat promises are wild promises. Luckily thousands of Maltese, especially workers, shipyard workers, Go, Bus drivers and recently Air Malta workers knows how Gonzipn keep his promises. Gonzipn before 2008 election promised heaven on earth to workers by sending them job letter guarantee signed by himself and promising bright future for the workers and their families. After getting want he wanted from them he sent them letters to resign from their jobs. Now Gonzipn wants us to believe his promises. No chance to ever believe Gonzipn.

"Gonzi also spoke about the past records of former Labour ministers Evarist Bartolo, Leo Brincat and Karmenu Vella who are still central ingredients of today's Labour Party.".... looks like gonzi's strategy team has not told him that these kind of statements are in fantile and hold no water. What the maltese know is that he made a lot of promises he did not keep but Muscat has been tried yet so how can he say Muscat is making promises he cannot keep. The more gonzi talks the more he sounds childish, inane and asinine.

"Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi says Opposition leader Joseph Muscat is making promises which he cannot keep " How ironic! Lawrence Gonzi must be the world's leading expert on making promises with no intention whatsoever of keeping them. Just look at the promise to reduce taxes, made before tye last election with the full knowledge of the impending financial crises.

This article reminds me of someone who promised to lower income tax, who promised secure jobs for employees working in a number of parastatal companies and so on and so forth! Everybody is capable of promising everything to everyone. The crunch comes when trying to keep the promises made!

Tibqax issemmi wegħdiet li ma' jistgħux iseħħu għax iktar tkompli taqa' għaċ-ċajt! Inti l-inqas bniedem li jista jitkellem dwar wegħdi mhux imwettqin. Mela int tqis lil kullħadd b'qiesek u b'qies il-partit tiegħek?? Ħallina ħalli ngħatu ċans lil Joey u wara nuruk.

Hadd ma hu f'pozzizjoni ahjar minn Dr.Gonzi biex jitkellem fuq weghdi mhux mizmuma. Bizejjed insemmu ezempju zghir,l-Craft Village ta Ta Qali, li ilu jigi mwieghed ghal 25 shah, u ghadu fi stat tal biki.

Problems with Mepa, you are jokeing, Mepa is another small dockyard which is one of the bureaucracy that we have on this island.

What a clown!!! As Abraham Lincoln once said. 'You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time'. Just get out and go work for a circus! You'll be remembered as the worst and the weakest ever PM in this Banana republic!!

Imma veru li gonzipn telaqna tafux !!! Of all people hu se jitkellem dwar weghdiet li ma jitwettqux? trid tkun veru bla misthija, bla wicc biex tghid kliem bhal dan meta kien gonzipn stess li tant wieghed xorti li ma wettaqhomx (tnaqqis ta' taxxa, zamma ta' impiegi fl-Air Malta, fit-tarzna, f'tal-linja, fi Smart City); tnehhija tal-licenzja tat-television) u tant wettaq xorti li ma weghdhomx (bhaz-zieda li ta lilu nnifsu u lill-klikka opportunista ta' madwaru, li jahtar diretturi ta' kumpaniji tal-gvern wara sejha ghall-applikazzjonijiet) - trid tkun veru wiccek imcappas bil- ...... biex tpacpac fil-vojt b' dan il-mod u tahseb li n-nies se jemmnuk !!!!

I would have though that after seeing Malta Toda's result of its last opinion poll published this morning, Dr. Gonzi wouldn't repeat the same old non-arguments ab out 'Old Labour' deputies etc... When repeaying this Lawrence Gonzi is proving himself MUCH OLDER than the people he keeps mentioning. This is why Lawrence Gonzi has made a name for himself as Malta's MAN OF THE PAST. While Dr. Joseph Muscat is THE MAN OF THE FUTURE !!!!
Posted by: edyjoyce — 17/06/2012 13:00:34
What we know for sure Lawrence, is that IT IS YOU who has made promises which you didn't keep !!!!!!!!!
