Kevin Zerafa from Zabbar has been slapped with a life ban from holding a hunting licence, handed an 18 month jail term suspended for three years and fined €1,500 after being found guilty of illegal hunting.

Zerafa was caught by police while hunting in a prohibited area, in possession of protected birds. He was also found guilty of relapsing.

Magistrate Anthony Vella who presided the court, ordered the immediate confiscation of all hunting equipment seized from Zerafa.

Meanwhile, Simon Camilleri, also from Zabbar was fined €1,500 and had his hunting licence suspended for a year after admitting to illegal hunting.

A total of 58 persons were arraigned this morning for hunting offences.

44 were found guilty and fined between €250 and €700 each, while three were acquitted.

14 others had their cases put off for another date.

The picture (same repetitive one) presented with the article depicts a song bird in a cage "gabjetta". This picture has nothing to do with hunting. Readers should be guided accordingly. Hunting is not trapping, and illegal hunting does not refer to trapping irregularities. Is it possible that Maltatoday's picture archive lacks images related to hunting?, or does it prove that whoever covers such features does not know the subject in question? MT's notable stance against Maltese hunters and trappers should by now have ranked it as a professional in the field, but it seems not.

Hunter banned for life--- Does ANYBODY really think that by imposing a ban on this serial lawbreaker will stop him from picking up another gun and carrying on with his "tradition"?

"He was also found guilty of relapsing." ..which to me indicates a clear disregard for the law and the previous sentence. Why should anyone believe he'll obey the law this time?
