Senior officials from the Malta Hotel and Restaurants Association (MHRA) led by president Tony Zahra and vice president George Micallef met Air Malta chairman Louis Farrugia and chief executive Peter Davies as well as other senior commercial executives.
Air Malta officials presented an update on the progress achieved to date on the restructuring plan and the size of the task ahead.
"MHRA were appreciative of the fact that Air Malta made this presentation and supported the need for Air Malta to return to profitability in the shortest time possible," the airline said.
MHRA pointed out that the objective of returning the airline to profitability can be achieved whilst safeguarding the interest of the tourism industry which represents some 30 per cent of Malta's GDP.
"Air Malta remains central to the tourism industry. Without Air Malta there is a weak tourism industry. Air Malta must leverage the industry in ensuring its return to profitability," MHRA president Tony Zahra said.
Further meetings between the two sides are being planned.
