UK Minister for Europe at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and MP, David Lidington
UK Minister for Europe at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and MP, David Lidington, will be paying an official visit to Malta next week which is expected to strengthen close ties between Malta and the United Kingdom.
“It is an opportunity for the UK to continue to work closely with Malta on the issues affecting both countries, making the most of our strong relationship and shared views in many areas,” the British High Commission said.
Lidington will also be attending a reception onboard the HMS Echo, berthed in the Grand Harbour, as well participating in a public dialogue entitled ‘Europe: The Financial Challenges Ahead’, organised by the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSAC) at 10.00am on 17 July at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. This will later be aired on TVM2.
This is the second of a number of high profile visits by UK public figures to Malta this year. In April, the Duke of Gloucester visited to mark HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the awarding of the George Cross to Malta. The British High Commission said the UK Chief of the Defence Staff and the First Sea Lord will also be visiting later this summer.
