Marine diesel oil from a pipeline leading to Laboratory Wharf at the Grand Harbour spilled into the sea this morning, with the first observation being made at 8:30am, according to State-owned fuel importer Enemed.

Initially, the oil was thought to be coming from a tanker that had docked in the area for loading, but further investigations showed the source to be a leaking pipeline.

Enemed immediately put its emergency plan into action and the situation was brought under control shortly, with the help of the Civil Protection Department, port authorities and the Environment and Resources Authority.
