Waste collectors assigned to three main beaches

A team of waste collectors will be deployed at three of Malta's main north-western beaches this summer.

The five waste collectors will be deployed across Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay and Ghadira as part of a pilot project to clean up Malta's beaches.

The initiative, the brainchild of the Environment and Resources Authority, will be extended to other beaches next summer if it proves successful.

Launching the scheme at Golden Bay, environment minister Jose Herrera hailed it as "the next leap forward" in waste collection.

"Just as we are successfully educating people to separate their waste at home, so too must we now educate them to separate their waste at beaches," he said.
