A group of volunteers coming from all walks of life who entertain children who are receiving hospital treatment, will be putting a smile on children's faces at Malta's national hospital, Mater Dei, making them forget their pain for a while, through the power of laughter.

Dr Klown, which is being supported by Middlesea Insurance, is based on an idea introduced by Hunter Doherty 'Patch' Adams, an American doctor immortalised in the 1998 film Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams.

Dr Klown volunteers receive specialised training before they start meeting the young patients. "We believe that it's important for us to support such worthy initiatives," Alfredo Munoz, CEO of Middlesea Insurance, said. "Dr Klown is one such initiative. Often, a smile can be the best medicine and we're sure that with their work the Klown doctors are making these children's ordeal a little more bearable."
