Mater Dei Hospital has launched a new service by which out patients will be reminded of any scheduled appointments, at least 10 days before.

The new SMS system was introduced to help reduce the problem of missed appointments, which according to Health Minister Chris Fearne could at times reach 30% at various clinics.

During the launch of the SMS system at the hospital, Fearne said that two auto-generated messages would be sent for every appointment, with the first message being sent 10 days before and the second message two days before.

“Organising and addressing out patients services helps to deliver a more efficient service, along with extended hours and scheduling appointments during the weekend,” Fearne said.
