InterContinental Malta chefs win top awards

InterContinental Malta’s chefs led by executive head chef Paul Borg, won 15 prizes at the Malta Kulinarja 2013.

The team won 15 prizes across the competition including a gold trophy and four best in class prizes. The prestigious award of Chef of the Year went to Ryan Marmarà as did the accolade for the Maltese Trophy. The Chef Grand Prix trophy went to Ian Micallef, Ryan Marmarà and Jonathan Brincat. 

"I feel proud to be part of this team and have always dreamt of achieving the title of Chef of the Year.  Winning the two most prominent awards is a highlight in my personal career. I was left speechless and cannot believe that I won them," said Ryan Marmarà.

InterContinental Malta's senior chef team was made up of Ryan Marmarà, Ian Micallef, Jonathan Brincat, Joseph Caruana, Jonathan Gatt and Mark Xuereb whilst Brady Dalli, Melchior Camilleri and Steve Borg formed the junior team.

The Malta Kulinarja, Cookery and Culinary Arts Championships, organised by the Malta Chefs Society, was held between 14 and 17 November 2013 at the Bay Arena in St. George's Bay.   This culinary arts competition of professionally produced food in specific categories is presented by trainees, kitchen artists and chefs from some of Malta's top restaurants and hotels. The evaluation process includes flavour, presentation, composition, technical skills and many other measurable benchmarks.
