Valletta nominated for the title of European Best Destination 2015

Valletta has been shortlisted amongst 20 nominee cities for the title of European Best Destination 2015.

Valletta has been shortlisted amongst 20 nominee cities for the title of European Best Destination 2015, the Malta Tourism Authority has announced.

Public voting will be open for 3 weeks, between 20 January and 10 February, on www.ebd2015.com.

The city to receive most votes will be awarded the title of ‘European Best Destination 2015’. The remaining destinations that make up the top 10 will be promoted on various social networks and websites as being one of the best European destinations to visit in 2015.

The destination which receives most votes will also be authorized to use the title and logo of European Best Destination’ on all its communications, adverts, website and photos. The remaining destinations that place in the top 10 will be able to use a logo to show that they were chosen as one of the ten best destinations to visit in Europe.

“The nomination of Valletta as European Best Destination is a great honour for Malta, in particular for our great capital, which has already been declared as the European Capital of Culture for 2018,” MTA CEO Paul Bugeja said. “It is truly a unique city within an Island that can provide something for everyone, from culture to leisure, from history to prehistory, from meetings to reunions, from weddings to special events - and this all year round.”

European Best Destinations (EBD) is a Brussels-based European organization that promotes tourism in Europe.

In 2014, Porto won the award of European Best Destination’.

“An independent study showed that by winning this title, Porto benefitted from over 10 million euros of free publicity across Europe,” an MTA statement said.
