Malefice in Malta
Popular UK metal band Malefice, fresh off their tour with Devildriver and God Forbid, will be performing with local bands Slit, Tendency Charge and Recoil on Friday, December 7 at Poxx Bar, Paceville and with CoreFrequency and Dying Signals on Saturday, 8 December at Remedy, Paceville. The first band on Friday kicks off at 9.45pm sharp and entrance to both gigs is Lm3.50. Organised by Extreme Noise Promotions.

X-Vandals and Martyrium at Remedy
Old school metallers X-Vandals will join forces with black metallers Martyrium for an unforgiving union of dark sounds at Remedy, Paceville. This will be the last chance to see X-Vandals for a while, as the band who played a staggering eight gigs this year will now commit themselves to the studio to record a second album following their formation in 1982. Martyrium fans will be glad to see the band in action after a long hiatus and a new line-up change, as they will come armed with new material. Entrance is at Lm2.

St Paul’s Choir Concert
St Paul’s Choir will perform a concert in aid of the Eden Foundation at De La Salle College, Cottonera at 7.30pm. Tickets, including drinks and finger food are at Lm2.50. Tel. 21 807708

Vanishing Valletta
Exhibition of photographs by David Pisani at the Hilton, St Julian’s. The exhibition showcases the product of an 18 year long project that was entered into the Bibliotheque Nationale de France. A book of photographs will also be released to coincide with the exhibition.

Transcendence: materia, colori e rilievi
An exhibition of paintings by Anthony P. Vella at Heritage Malta Head Office, Valletta. Open Monday to Friday from 8.30am - 4.00pm.

Roots of an Island
An exhibition of paintings by Christopher Saliba at the Loggia, National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta. Open Monday to Sunday from 9.00am - 5.00pm (Last Admission 4.30pm).

Miniature Nativity Scenes: A Multicultural Christmas
An exhibition of unique nativity scenes from the five continents at the Inquisitor’s Palace, Vittoriosa. Open Monday to Sunday from 9.00am - 5.00pm (Last Admission 4.30pm) at Lm2 (4.66 Euros).

Moment in Time
A huge group of Maltese artists will be exhibiting at the Manoel Theatre Coutryard in aid of Flimkien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar. Open from 10am to 8.30pm.

Caravaggio: l’Immagine del Divino
An exhibition of original masterpieces of Caravaggio, organised by Heritage Malta and Romartificio Eventi d’Arte. At the Salon in the National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta. Open Monday to Sunday from 9.00am - 7.00pm (last admission at 6.30pm).

Outofprint
Art exhibition organised by Warti at Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Merchant’s Street, Valletta. Works by 14 different artists will be on display, the mediums used a variety of printing techniques; Xylography, dry point, etching, relief lithography, serigraphy and monotype transfer. Open Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm.

Caravaggio and Paintings of Realism in Malta
The long-awaited exhibition will be held at the St John’s Co-Cathedral Annex, Valletta as part of the Caravaggio 400 celebrations, marking Caravaggio’s presence in Malta.
Caravaggio’s ‘Portrait of a Knight’, which the Baroque master painted while on the island, will be the highlight of this showcase.

December 30
Malta’s Mediterranean Trilogy: Bread, Oil and Wine
An exhibition organised by Heritage Malta as part of the EU programme Trimed. At the Ta’ Kola Windmill, Xaghra Gozo. Open Monday to Sunday from 9.00am - 5.00pm (last admission at 4.30pm).

QUIZ NIGHTS

Thursdays
Quiz Nights held at Ciao Frà, Xemxija. Entrance next to Beachaven. Every Thursday at 9.00pm, tables team up to fill in a self-completion quiz pack of 40 general knowledge and current affairs questions. Winners receive Lm10 discount off their bill and a bottle of bubbly (both winners and runners-up). Participation fee Lm1. Reservations call: 99458567.

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

Until December 7
One World Week
This Student Cultural Event will be held at the KSU Common Room, Student House, University. The event aims to promote cultural diversity on campus. There will be stands for different countries to introduce their culture. The Chinese stands ‘China Dream’ will be part of the event. Various programs will be organized each day. Fingerprint collection, Traditional musical instruments (today), Chinese traditional paper cut (Thursday), Chinese calligraphy (Friday). There will also be 2008 China Olympic promotion and Chinese games through out the week.

PUBLIC LECTURES

December 6
Theology in Caravaggio
Public Lecture organised by the Faculty of Theology, held at the Oratory of St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta between 7pm and 9pm. Prof. Joe Friggieri and Dr Keith Sciberras will be discussing ‘The Theological Message in Caravaggio’, while Rev. Dr Mark Sultana will give a lecture on ‘Theology and Beauty’. The evening will include an intermezzo of baroque music.

December 11
Heritage is Malta’s main asset. Do we treat it as such?
Public lecture by Dr Ray Bondin, organised by Heritage Malta at Heritage Malta Head Office, Valletta. Starts at 6.30pm.
