36 years after the quaint village of Kirkop was shell-shocked by the mysterious shooting of 57-year-old father of nine Guzeppi Callus, the crime has left police at their wit’s end and the murderer is yet to be identified, Sunday newspaper Illum reveals.

Illum reports that back in 30th October 1978, Callus, who at the time of the murder was in his field, suffered a fatal shot his chest. Shocked by the deafening sound of the lone gunshot, the victim’s wife, Antonia Callus, rushed out to her husband’s aid.

Found lying in a pool of blood, Guzeppi Callus died in his wife’s arms, minutes after being shot by the unidentified murderer.

The Sunday newspaper reports that initial investigations had revealed that the murderer had hid among trees and shot Callus through a prickly pear tree. Following the shooting, the murderer, who is said to have known Callus, was seen running off in the neighbouring fields.

Police had initially suspected that Guzeppi Callus’s role as foreman had made the target of enemies, but the victim’s wife had said that her husband did not have any enemies, instead insisting that the motive behind her husband’s killing was different than what police had thought off.

“Guzeppi was a confessed political supporter and no stranger to political arguments. He had a hot head and was a diehard political supporter. Politics killed my husband,” the victim’s wife had told police.
