A number of students at the Libyan Arab School in Ta' Giorni  have barricaded themselves inside the school in protest and preventing anyone, including the director, from entering.

The strike was called when some students discovered that they would not be able to extend their studies in Malta, thanks to a refusal of their applications from the Libyan government, meaning that they would have to suspend their studies and return to Libya.

The district police were on site, as was Deupty Commissioner Raymond Zammit. As Zammit entered the school, the situation calmed down and talks are underway to resolve the situation.

More to follow.
