Broadcaster Paul Attard found dead, hours after falling from building

A man who fell from a building on Sunday night was found dead, Monday morning at around 9:20am. The 72-year-old man - veteran broadcaster Paul Attard - is believed to have fallen a height of one storey but his body was only found the next morning.

Attard had been reported missing on Monday morning by his family.

Attard was attending a reception organised at the St John Cavalier, the embassy of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John. The President of the Republic was in attendance.

Attard is the father of former AFM deputy commander, Colonel David Attard.

Among other posts, the late Attard served as permanent secretary at the Ministry of Education under the Nationalist administration. In the past, he also served as chairman of the Public Service Commission and was president of the board of governors at MCAST.

He was currently serving as president of the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation.

In a statement, the Police said the man was found dead “after probably” falling from a building in Ordinance Street, Valletta. The man was last seen on the building’s roof yesterday evening.

Investigations are underway. Several experts have been appointed to assist with a magisterial inquiry.

In a statement, the PN expressed its condolences and praised Attard’s work and involvement in the education sector. After retiring from the civil service, Attard continued advising the PN on education policies and last week he took part in a meeting on the need of a language policy as part of the national education system.
