Chinese man fined €100 for smoking on board flight from the Netherlands to Malta

A 25-year-old Chinese man was this morning fined €100 and reprimanded after admitting to smoking on board a Ryanair aircraft during a flight from Eindhoven to Malta.

Hu Cui, who resides in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands, admitted to smoking in the aircraft’s bathroom at a time when smoking is prohibited.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 1:30 on board Ryanair flight FR3476 from Eindhoven to Malta.

Taking the witness stand, the aircraft’s captain Nicholas Beck, told the court that the aircraft is registered in Ireland, not in Malta.

Asked about the incident, he also explained that cabin crew on board the aircraft caught the man smoking just before their descent into Malta. When questioned by the cabin crew, the man admitted to smoking.

Standing before Magistrate Aaron Bugeja, the accused apologised for his actions and was fined  €100.

The man denied legal aid.
