The Armed Forces of Malta were involved in a rescue operation after the captain of a fishing vessel requested medical assistance.

The fishing vessel was sailing at 116nm south of Malta.

MaltaToday is informed that the captain, a Maltese national, requested medical assistance following burns he suffered to his leg. The rest of the crew, four, are foreigners.

Complications arose when it transpired that the rest of the crew were not trained to operate the vessel. The captain’s father has however offered to take his son’s place in order for the latter to be transferred to Mater Dei Hospital for medical care.

The father was flown to location via an AFM helicopter.
