Sicilian accused of drug smuggling denied bail

Drugs discovered in car disembarking the ferry from Sicily
 

A 49 year-old, unemployed Sicilian man was remanded in custody this morning after pleading not guilty to importing approximately 4 kg of cannabis plants.

Inspector Herman Mula told the court that the drugs were discovered in Martino Aiello’s car as he was disembarking the ferry from Pozzallo.

Aiello was accused of conspiracy to import drugs, drug trafficking and drug possession.

The accused's lawyer, Joseph Mizzi, requested bail however Magistrate Carol Peralta did not uphold this request, ordering the accused be remanded in custody.
