Parliamentary secretary José Herrera denies bumping into parked car, ‘barely touched it’

A spokesperson for parliamentary secretary José Herrera has denied media reports of a hit-and-run in Hamrun yesterday evening.

In a reaction issued 22 hours after the alleged incident was reported by the PN media, a spokesperson for the junior minister said Herrera “denies any involvement in an alleged traffic incident in Hamrun”.

“While he was parking to meet some of his constituents in Hamrun, his car may have touched another car. The contact, if any, was so slight that he barely noticed it,” the spokesman said.

MaltaToday has been requesting a response from Jose Herrera's parliamentary secretariat since yesterday evening over the parliamentary secretary for economic growth's alleged involvement in a hit-and-run case but have not yet been contacted. 

According to the PN media, Herrera was in a parking space in Hamrun at 7pm yesterday evening when he reversed onto a Peugeot and drove off. It also reported that "a number of persons close to Herrera" went to his house in Lija to inspect the car Herrera had been driving. Reportedly, these individuals then got in Herrera's car and drove away. 

It is understood that police report has yet been filed at the Hamrun police station over the incident.
