Cospicua man accused of defiling 13-year-old released on bail

The man, who cannot be named by court order, denied defiling the girl between 2008 and 2013.

A 56-year-old man from Cospicua who appeared before Magistrate Marse Anne Farrugia this afternoon charged with defiling a 13-year-old girl has been granted bail.

The man, who cannot be named by court order, denied defiling the girl between 2008 and 2013.

The magistrate upheld a request by the man’s lawyers, Paul and Alessandro Lia, to ban on the publication of the name of the defendant as well as that of the victim.

Inspector Josric Mifsud, prosecuting, said that he had no objection to this request, which was upheld by the magistrate.

Inspector Mifsud told the court that the two were no longer in contact with each other and that there was no obstacle to granting the accused bail.

The court granted the accused bail against a deposit of €750 and a €10,000 personal guarantee.
