Constable assaulted in Marsa police station

A police constable suffered grievous injury early this morning after being assaulted in the Marsa police station.

In a press statement, the police force reported that at about 02:20am, a Somali man asked to speak to the police sergeant, who at the time was not there.

The constable tried to explain the situation but the man reacted aggressively and assaulted the constable.

He called for assistance, which arrived in the form of district police and members of the RIU, who managed to bring the situation under control.

The aggressor suffered slight injuries and was taken to a health centre for treatment. He is being held in custody for further questionning.

Police investigations are underway.
