An ice-bucket assault has landed a man before a magistrate this morning, accused of causing grievous injury to a bouncer.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera Pilar heard Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri charge 40-year-old Kevin Turner from Naxxar with causing grievous bodily harm to a bouncer at Aria Club, limits of San Gwann.

Inspector Camilleri told the court how at around 1:30am on Sunday morning for reasons known only to him, Turner had tried to leave the club carrying an ice bucket belonging to the establishment in question. On his way out of the club, ice bucket in hand, Turner was challenged by a bouncer.

Turner then allegedly proceeded to throw the bucket at the bouncer’s head, causing a 2cm-long gash over his eyebrow.

He was also charged with relapsing.

Lawyer Joe Mizzi, appearing on Turner’s behalf pleaded not guilty. Turner was granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.
