Update 2 | Tributes pour in for father killed in Mgarr motorcycle crash

Christopher Farrugia, a 45-year-old father of two from Birzebbugia, died this morning after crashing into a bus and a Jeep before flying off his motorcycle and landing on the side of the road. 

Tributes have been pouring in for a 45-year-old father of two who died this morning in a fatal crash in Mgarr. 

Friends and colleagues took to Facebook to express their shock and sorrow at the tragic death of their friend who died this morning after crashing on the road between Mgarr and Ghajn  Tuffieha. The incident occurred this morning when the victim, Christopher Farrugia, 45, of Birzebbugia, was driving in the direction of Ghajn Tuffieha together with two other motorcyclists.  

Preliminary investigations suggest that at about 9.45 am, the victim’s Honda CB motorcycle crashed into a bus driven by a 22-year-old man from Haz-Zebbug. Upon impact, the man also crashed into a Jeep driven by an Italian couple before flying off the motorcycle and landing on the side of the road.

The man was given initial medical assistance by an ambulance but all efforts were all in vain as the motorcyclist died on the spot. 

Duty Magistrate Ian Farrugia has ordered a magisterial inquiry while police investigations are ongoing.
