Serial fraudster handed jail sentence after latest con

Duncan Buttigieg was handed a jail sentence after taking money for a fictitious knee operation

Habitual fraudster Duncan Buttigieg from Ghaxaq has been found guilty of yet another con.

Buttigieg, who has a string of convictions and a list of pending criminal cases almost as long, has been sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment for taking money for a fictitious knee operation.

He had approached his victim, whom he knew from his hometown, claiming that he needed an urgent knee operation at St. James Hospital but could not afford it.

The friend loaned Buttigieg €3,400 to help him out. However, when his friend checked with the hospital, no history of the procedure being carried out on the accused was found.

Magistrate Carol Peralta handed the accused a 30-month jail sentence .
