Nadur man pleads guilty to assaulting police

Unnamed 59 year-old handed suspended sentence and fined after pleading guilty to charges of assaulting two police officers and violently resisting them

A 59 year-old man from Nadur, Gozo, has been handed a suspended sentence together with a hefty fine after he admitted to assaulting two policemen.

The man, who was not named by the police, was arraigned before magistrate Paul Coppini on charges of assaulting and attacking the officers and violently resisting the two officers in the course of their duties. He was also accused of relapsing.

In view of the man’s guilty plea, the court sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment, suspended for three years and fined him €4,000.
