Couple accused of using stolen credit card for €660 shopping spree

Deliveryman Kyle Mifsud and Donna Camilleri, who is unemployed, were accused of stealing a handbag from a parked car in Marsascala on the 26 May.

A 28-year-old youth, from Cospicua, and his 23-year-old girlfriend, from Santa Lucia, have been remanded in custody, after they were charged with using a stolen credit card this afternoon.

Deliveryman Kyle Mifsud and Donna Camilleri, who is unemployed, were accused of stealing a handbag from a parked car in Marsascala on the 26 May.

That same day, the couple had used a bank card found in the bag to purchase €659 worth of jewellery and mobile phones.

The pair were also charged with having stolen a bag from Rinella bay in Kalkara.

Both accused pleased not guilty to the charges and to relapsing.

Camilleri alone pleaded not guilty to breaching conditions of a previous release.

Lawyers Noel Bartolo and Austin Gauci Mestre requested bail, but this was opposed by the prosecution as there were several witnesses yet to testify and because of the gravity of the offences.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke denied bail and ordered the pair be remanded on custody.

Inspector Robert Said Sarreo prosecuted.
