Two Egyptians deny raping Filipino man

The men, 33 year-old Ramy Gamal Elasrag and 24 year-old Helmy Mohamed Helmay Elmosaty were charged in connection with the sexual assault which took place on the 31 August in Gnien il-Mall at Floriana

Two unemployed Egyptian men have been remanded in custody this afternoon, after they were charged in connection with the rape of a Filipino man in a Floriana public garden last month.

The men, 33 year-old Ramy Gamal Elasrag, who lives in Marsaxlokk, and 24 year-old Helmy Mohamed Helmay Elmosaty, who lives on a boat, were charged in connection with the sexual assault which took place at around 11pm on the 31 August in Gnien il-Mall at Floriana.

Elasrag was charged with the rape itself and holding the man against his will, whilst Elmosaty was charged with knowingly assisting the commission of a rape and illegal arrest. Both men pleaded not guilty.

Bail was not requested.

The court ordered the accused be remanded in custody.
