The incident occurred at around 5:30pm in Triq il-Mellieha, Manikata when a Suzuki motorcyclist driven by a 26-year-old man from Rabat crashed into a Nissan X-Trail driven by a 50-year-old man from Qormi. The man subsequently collided into a grey Mazda 323 driven by a 45-year-old man from Marsaxlokk before crashing into a nearby wall.
An ambulance was called to the scene but the motorcyclist was certified dead on the spot.
The victim has since been identified as Clint Farrugia, a 26-year-old man from Rabat, TVM reported.
His next of kin were immediately informed by the police.
A magisterial inquiry is underway while police investigations are ongoing.
The drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident escaped unharmed.
This is the third road fatality of this year, and the second involving motorcycles. On January 5, 26-year-old Johanna Boni, a Sicilian who had been living in Malta for the past years, lost her life after colliding with a construction truck in Labour Avenue, Naxxar. The second road fatality of the year also occurred in January after Marthese Zarb, a 53-year-old nurse from Pembroke, succumbed to her injuries following a violent crash in St Julian’s on January 23.
Today’s accident is also the second incident of its kind in less than seven hours. Earlier, a 45-year-old man from Hamrunwas seriously injured after crashing while driving along the Coast Road, Bahar ic-Caghaq.
