Charges filed against driver Paul Bailey, 11 others over Paqpaqli supercar accident

23 people were injured in the October 2015 accident, which took place at an MCCF fundraising event

Charges against Paul Bailey and 11 members of the Paqpaqli organising committee were filed in court today, in relation to the 4 October accident that injured 23 people.

Paul Bailey, the British driver who was driving the supercar that ploughed past flimsy safety barriers and into the crowd at the fundraising event, is facing the main charges.

Individuals responsible for organizing the event, which was in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, are facing further charges. Their identities have not yet been made public, though they are expected to be released once the individuals appear in court, barring a ban on the publication of their details.

Excerpts of the conclusions of the magisterial inquiry into the incident were published by justice minister Owen Bonnici in January – the inquiry concluded that Bailey was most to blame for the accident.

Attorney General Peter Grech refused a request to publish the length report on the inquiry. The AG has the legal right to decide whether such reports are published.
