Firefighters called in to put out fire in Ghaxaq residence: cat dies from smoke inhalation, dog is saved and no persons were injured

Members of the Civil Protection Department called in to put out a fire in a private residence in Ghaxaq saved a dog but were not in time to save a cat.

The incident happened at around 10.45am when passers-by noticed smoke coming out of a garage in Triq Dawret Hal Ghaxaq.

Whilst fire-fighters put out the fire in the garage, the smoke had crept inside the residence.

No persons were inside the residence at the time of the fire but the family’s pets, a cat and a dog, were there. Whilst members of the CPD rescued the dog, the cat unfortunately passed away.

The garage was also damaged as a result of the fire.
