Two-year suspended sentence handed to tourist for crashing scooter

An Englishman was handed a 10-month jail term suspended for two years after crashing a scooter, and fined €1,200 for refusing to take a breathalyser test

A Briton on holiday in Malta who he crashed with a motor scooter in St Paul’s Bay two days ago appeared in court for grievously injuring the passenger and refusing to take a breathalyser test.

The incident happened two days ago in Triq it-Trunċiera at about 7.50pm.

The accused, 31-year-old Matthew David Bullian, from Reading, was also injured and turned up in court today covered in bruises and with his left foot in a cast.

Police inspector Godwin Scerri told the court that the man had already paid €470 for the scooter damage.

The man pleaded guilty to all charges and was give a 10-month jail term suspended for two years.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea also fined him €1,200 for refusing to take the breathalyser test.
