An American man was grievously injured in the early hours of this morning after being involved in an argument with two Libyans.

According to a police statement, the incident happened in St George’s Road, St Julian's at 12:45am, when the police approached three men caught up in an argument, in order to defuse the situation. One of the men ran away as soon as the police arrived, but as police officers were talking to the Libyans, aged 33 and 35, they were informed that there was an injured person close by who was taken hospital to receive treatment. It later resulted that this was the American, aged 35, who had run away.

The victim was reportedly injured after the 35-year-old Libyan pushed him, and as result the man lost his balance and hit his head against a skip. Police said he also received several blows.

The 35-year-old Libyan was also hospitalised in order to be treated for slight injuries while the other Libyan refused medical assistance.

Both Libyan nationals are currently in police custody to assist in the investigation.
