Italian police find 13kg of marijuana in Malta-bound car

The Italian police arrested a man who was heading to Malta with 13kg of marijuana, which has a street value of at least €200,000.

The 55-year-old man from Catania, who Italian police named as V.G., was arrested in a surprise inspection on his car prior to boarding the catamaran in Ragusa on 20 October.

The police held the surprise inspection after the man was acting nervously and after spotting a number of bolts under one of the car seats.

The police then found 25 packets of marijuana concealed inside the car bumper, spare wheel and doors.

The vehicle and the drugs were seized, while the man, already known to the police for other offenses, was arrested and taken to the Ragusa prison.
