An 18-year-old Valletta supporter grabbed a police officer’s genitals in an attempt to escape the clutches of the police, a court heard today.

The remark was made this afternoon during the arraignment of Jesmark Farrugia, of Marsa, who stood charged before Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona of lighting up a flare at the national stadium while celebrating Valletta’s first goal against Hamrun Spartans on Saturday.

Farrugia was also accused of resisting arrest and of relapsing.

He pleaded not guilty.

Inspector Elliot Magro told the court that the police had approached the accused after he lit up a flare, only for him to escape.

The police later caught up with the accused, only for the youth to continue resisting arrest.

The youth is then said to have made a second attempt to flee the police, and even grabbed a police officer’s genitals.

The accused was granted bail against a deposit of €10,000 and was banned from going to all football stadiums.
