Elderly woman, man injured in Mellieha car crash

78-year-old woman from Qala and 38-year-old man from Qormi hospitalized after collision between van and car

A 72-year-old woman from Qala was among two persons who were injured this afternoon after a collision between two vehicles along the Mellieha bypass.

The incident occurred at around 3:15pm in Triq Lewis Wettinger, Mellieha, when a Peugeot 206 driven by a 79-year-old man from Qala, Gozo, crashed into a Kia Ceres.

Upon impact, the two vehicles crashed into a wall.

The driver of the Kia Ceres, a 38-year-old man from Qormi, as well as a 72-year-old woman from Qala, who was a passenger in the Peugeot, were injured and hospitalised.

The 78-year-old man was not injured.

The injured were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by an ambulance. Their condition is not yet known.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were also called on the scene of the incident to free one person trapped in the wreckage.

Police investigations are ongoing.
