A Somali man has been conditionally discharged after he admitted to slightly injuring another man with a pair of scissors.

Before magistrate Monica Vella this morning, 21-year-old Abdirahman Hassan Abdiladeef, resident of Marsa, was charged with attempting to grievously injure a fellow Somali national by stabbing him with a pair of scissors on 11 January at around 7:30pm in Triq Hal Qormi, Marsa.

The victim suffered slight injuries in the attack.

Prosecuting police inspector Elliott Magro also charged Abdiladeef with disobeying a lawful order issued by a police officer and with obstructing police - in connection with a struggle with police at the Floriana lockup an hour after he was arrested.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino, appearing on behalf of the accused, entered a plea of guilty.

The court conditionally discharged Abdiladeef for a period of one year and issued a protection order in favour of the victim.
