Police arrest man as he tried to dispose of drugs

A 33-year-old man from Nigeria was remanded in custody after the police arraigned him in court charged with trafficking cannabis.

The man, who resides at the Marsa Open Centre, was arrested by the Drugs Squad as he was caught throwing away a bag contained 31grammes of cannabis.

He threw it away after he realised that the police were on to him.

Further investigations led to the discovery of another 24grammes, suspected to be cannabis resin.

Inspector Malcolm Bondin prosecuted whilst lawyer Yanika Bugeja appeared for the accused. The man pleaded not guilty.
