A 41-year-old Marsaskala man has been hospitalised this morning in a car crash involving seven vehicles near the Addolorata Cemetery.

According to police, the accident took place at 6:15am in Vjal Santa Lucja, and involved seven men in separate vehicles heading in the direction of Valletta.

According to police sources, the 22-year-old driver of a Toyota Hilux van lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a Chevrolet Aveo, driven by 45-year-old Ghaxaq man, and overturned, crashing into two other cars – a Fiat Punto driven by the victim, and a Toyota Vitz, driven by a 24-year-old man from Haz-Zebbug.

Three other vehicles who where on the same road at the time of the accident - a Maruti 800 driven by a 36-year-old Paola man; a Nissan Navara, driven by a 53-year-old man from Birzebbuga; and a Hino 300, driven by a 48-year-old man – collided into each other.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were on site to help the Marsaskala man out of the wreckage. Police later confirmed he was suffering from grievous injuries.

Part of the road was closed to traffic.
