Sicilian gets six years for 2012 cannabis bust

The Sicilian had been found in possession of over 1kg of cannabis of 6% purity

A Criminal Court has jailed for six and a half years a man arrested with nearly 1.5 kilogrammes of cannabis in 2012.

During the compilation proceedings against him in December 2016, 29-year-old construction worker Damiano Calisti, of Lentini, Sicily had pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to traffic drugs, selling cannabis, possession of cannabis, all within 100m from a school or club frequented by youths.

The Sicilian had been found in possession of over 1kg of cannabis of 6% purity and charged with these offences back in 2012.

Calisti had previously also been jailed on cannabis trafficking charges for 8 months in 2014 whilst out on bail.

Reducing his sentence due to his collaboration and early admission, judge Edwina Grima accepted a joint note of submissions on punishment from the prosecution and defence and jailed Calisti for 6 and a half years, also imposing a fine of €18,000 and ordering that all his assets be confiscated.
