Police Force remembers young officer murdered 18 years ago
The young police officer was shot dead on his parents’ doorstep, in the early hours of 20 March, 1999
PC Mark Farrugia had just returned home from a night shift when he was murdered on his parents’ doorstep on 20 March, 1999.
Sixteen years have elapsed since Farrugia was shot in the back at close range at 4.45am. The murderer, a fellow police officer, was sentenced to 22 years in jail. The court had found that Farrugia was killed as payback for reporting the former police constable for driving a car without an insurance cover.
A monument was erected in Farrugia’s memory in Tarxien.
“Mark, we salute you,” the Malta Police Force said on its Facebook page.
