A 19-year-old youth from Zurrieq has been released on bail pending sentencing after admitting to robbing his girlfriend's mother.

Inspector Roderick Spiteri arraigned Dion Lia before magistrate Grazio Mercieca this afternoon on charges of theft aggravated by means and value, voluntary damage to third party property and recidivism.

The theft, from a Birkirkara residence, took place on 18 April. The items stolen were not identified in court today, but sources informed this newspaper that the items included costume jewellery. The value of the items stolen did not exceed €2,329.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Yanika Vidal entered a guilty plea on Lia's behalf. The court granted the youth bail until Monday, when it will deliver its sentence.
