Two men have been jailed after admitting to having carried out 10 thefts from petrol stations.

In a statement released this afternoon, the police said the men, aged 31 and 42, were charged with stealing cash from several petrol stations, in  Żebbuġ, Attard, Qormi, Gżira and Ta’ Xbiex, between January and May. The unnamed accused, who hail from Valletta and Cospicua, were also charged with causing damage to the properties running into the thousands of euro.

The 31-year-old was additionally charged with stealing car registration plates, driving a car with another vehicle's licence plates and breaching conditions imposed by a previous court.

Both men were also charged with recidivism.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud sentenced the 31-year-old to imprisonment for 54 months, handing the 42-year-old an 18 month sentence.
