Swimmer dies at Mistra Bay

Efforts to administer first aid proved futile as the woman died before being taken to hospital

A 61-year-old woman from Mellieha has died after “facing difficulties” while swimming according to the Police. The incident happened at roughly 3.30pm at Mistra Bay.

The police said that from preliminary investigations, it had transpired that the woman had faced difficulties while swimming.

Members of the Red Cross administered first aid, however the woman had died by the time an ambulance arrived. She was certified dead on the spot.

Police investigations are still underway and an inquiry has been ordered.
