Man chased by police suffers grievous injuries in motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was grievously injured yesterday evening as he crashed into a parked car while trying to escape police

A 41-year-old Pieta’ man was grievously injured yesterday evening as he crashed his motorcycle while trying to escape police.

According to police, police officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit had been following the man on account of suspicious behaviour. Upon noticing the officers, the man drove off on his Piaggio Runner, before losing control and crashing into a Parked Renault Megane.

As he tried to flee the scene, the man was noticed throwing away a plastic bag containing substances suspected to be drugs, as well as cash.

Later the police also seized a bag which was in the possession of the man, containing plastic sachets and more cash

The incident occurred at about 6:30pm on Triq id-Duluri, Pieta’.

An ambulance was called on site to assist the man. He was later certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

The Ħamrun district police assisted in the operation.

Investigations are still ongoing.
