Head-on crash leaves woman dead, two injured on Mgarr road

The police are advising motorists to avoid the area as the road has been closed

One woman has died and two men have been hospitalised following a head-on collision between two cars - a Perodua Kancil and a Mazda Demio - on the road leading from Mosta to Mgarr.

The woman, 45, was a passenger in the Perodua Kancil and died on the spot. Her body was recovered from the car by members of the Civil Protection Department since the car overturned onto one side and crashed into a wall following the collision.

The driver, a 41-year-old male from St Paul’s Bay, has been hospitalised and is in a serious condition. 

The Mazda Demio was being driven by a 26-year-old male, who’s condition is as yet not known.

The accident took place at roughly 3.25pm.

A number of ambulances and police officers were deployed to the scene.

The police have advised motorists to avoid the road which has been closed to traffic.  

A police investigation is underway and a magisterial inquiry have been ordered.
