Italian to be deported for using fake immigration docs

A court has ordered the deportation of an Italian man who entered Malta yesterday using false identification documents.

Marco Gianluca Platania, from Turin, was stopped by the authorities as he entered Malta last night, using documents bearing the name Massimo Lo Monaco.


Inspector Victor Aquilina arraigned the Italian this morning before magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit for using falsified documents.

Platania pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. The court handed down an eight-month prison sentence, which to be was suspended for a year.

Platania's immediate deportation was also ordered.

Lawyer Victor Bugeja was defence counsel.
