Pregnant woman, partner, handed suspended sentences and EU travel ban for false passport

Marko Vucinic, 27, and Maja Zdravkovic, 27, both bleaded guilty to falsifying documents and tampering with their passports

A Serbian woman in her sixth month of pregnancy and her boyfriend have been ordered to be repatriated to Serbia and banned from travelling in the EU for three years, after admitting to passport offences.

37-year-old Marko Vucinic and Maja Zdravkovic, 27, both pleaded guilty to falsifying documents, tampering with their passports and being in possession of falsified documents.

The accused will be deported after the arraignment, Inspector Frankie Sammut told magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit.

The pair were sentenced to six month’s imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.

A three year EU-wide travel ban was also imposed on the couple, with the court warning that if they attempt to travel in the EU during that period, the suspended prison term would be rendered effective.
