Drunk who damaged five cars jailed for 10 months

Somali Mustafa Mohamud Mohamed, 29, was accused of damaging five cars that were parked at the Pieta' seafront

A drunken rampage, which left five cars damaged has landed a Somali man in prison.

Mustafa Mohamud Mohamed, 29, appeared before magistrate Josette Demicoli this afternoon accused of damaging five cars that were parked at the Pieta’ seafront, earlier this morning.

The man is understood to have been found sitting inside one of the cars that he had just broken into, by its owner, who then chased the man, who was arrested by the police further up the road.

Mohamed, who is unemployed and was represented by legal aid lawyer Christopher Chircop, pleaded guilty.

The accused had been convicted of several crimes and had just been released from prison, pointed out prosecuting police Inspector Mark Mercieca. He insisted that a prison sentence was “a necessity” in this case.

Chircop told the court that the accused was sorry for what he had done and, as he had no idea of what he was doing at the time, being drunk, the crime was not premeditated.

The court jailed Mohamed for 10 months.
